Nuggets of useful tech-related information that we send out from time to time.
1) The End for Windows XP. Microsoft has told their distributors that they will no
longer be supplying Windows XP after January 2009. First released in October 2001, XP has
had a good run, but now that Windows Vista has been fixed up Microsoft is insisting on
stopping production of XP. The one exception is ‘Ultra Low Cost PCs’, cheap computers with
low power CPU’s such as ‘Netbooks’ (see below) that will still come with Windows XP Home.
Bottom line: If you want a PC with Windows XP – Get it Now.
2) Netbooks Are Go: There is a new class of laptop known as the Netbook. These are
small, light, energy-efficient and inexpensive. They are ideal for email, internet and
document editing on the move. Due to a small screen and low CPU power they are not ideal
for full-time use, but compliment a desktop PC well. Models are available running Windows
XP Home and Linux with Open Office. Examples are the Asus EEE PC and the Acer Aspire.

3) Small Business Server 2008 Hits the Street: SBS is basically a suite of corporate
server products that have been bundled into a single product and tailored for small
businesses. The latest version, SBS 2008, is now available subsequent to Server 2008 having
come out in February 2008. The main components are Windows Server 2008, Exchange Server
2007 and SharePoint Services 3.0. More Info:
